I was in Australia for a week at a conference, I loved their accent so much I came back talking like an Aussie for a few days. It’s amazing the habits we can pick up from the people we spend the most time with.
If you are around people who enjoy tearing others down, being negative, jealous, competitive, and hateful, you are impacted by their behavior.
Just like we clean out our fridge and pantry before a fitness challenge of all the processed food that hurts our bodies, we also need to reevaluate who influences our mind. When you focus on shit, shit grows. When you focus on positivity and personal growth, YOU grow.
I know some of the negative influences might be at work (8 hours a day) or a family member constantly injecting negative attitudes and messages into your day. These are difficult situations for sure, but as your flight attendant says on every flight, put your mask on first, then help the person next to you put their mask on. After everything you have been through for 2020, now it’s your time!
It is up to EACH OF US to model POSITIVITY, APPRECIATION & RECOGNITION every chance we get. Yes, it’s our #BESTHOUR model but it works at work and home too.
When you focus on bad things, more bad things usually happen. When you focus on what is going wrong, more things usually go wrong in your life. If you engage in bullshit conversations or engage in gossip and hate then YOU become paranoid and assume everyone’s gossiping and hating on you.
If you’re jealous of other people’s success, happiness, or the things that they have… then you’ll find yourself depressed, broke, and feeling empty.

- Focus on YOU. Write down 3 things you want to change in the next 21 days and read them every morning.
- Focus on everything that you have going for you. Then give someone a well-deserved compliment.
- Focus on becoming the best version of yourself, become the one that lifts others up.
AND IF YOU REALLY WANT CHANGE?
Set higher standards for yourself and stop accepting mediocrity. Commit to better physical, mental and emotional hygiene. Exercise. Watch what you eat and drink…carefully.
Do what makes YOU happy, makes YOU money, and gives YOU a sense of purpose and significance.
Be a decent human being and leave people better than you found them!
